About Red Oak Security

Since 2016, Red Oak Security has been San Luis Obispo County’s premier provider of security patrol services. As the largest security patrol provider on the Central Coast, we provide property managers and business owners with tailored security solutions designed to protect their assets and peace of mind.

What sets us apart is our commitment to combining reliable service with cutting-edge technology. While some security companies still rely on handwritten reports, delivered too late to act on, our reports are delivered in real-time, so you can stay informed and mitigate issues promptly. Delays can put your property at risk.

What kind of risk? Well, how about a couple of real-life examples we’ve dealt with?

A commercial property manager called us to take over patrolling one of their managed properties from another security patrol service provider. Why? The other company had just given them three months’ worth of patrol logs and incident reports. The property manager had no idea about the types of incidents happening on the property until it was far too late to deal with them. In addition to putting the property at risk, it made the property manager look incompetent to the property owner. Red Oak Security stepped up and took over patrols of the property. The property manager got peace of mind knowing that she’d be well informed about any issues happening on the property.

At an industrial property we patrol several times each night, our Patrol Officer found a water leak. This wasn’t a broken sprinkler head that would run for 20 minutes and shut itself off. No, this was a full-blown busted pipe, gallons of water per minute flooding out from under the door, wake somebody up right now kind of leak. It was 2 in the morning, and their building full of products was getting soaked! We were able to wake up the right people and get people on site to start fixing the problem within the hour – not six hours later, which is when their staff would have discovered it.

Backed by over 20 years of experience in security and law enforcement, we understand the challenges commercial and industrial properties face. That’s why we’ve built our business around proactive service and advanced tools to meet your needs effectively. At Red Oak Security, we don’t just protect your property – we protect your reputation and peace of mind.

Frequently asked questions

What areas do you service?

We currently serve all of San Luis Obispo County: San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Atascadero, Arroyo Grande, Nipomo, Los Osos, Grover Beach, Morro Bay, Templeton, Pismo Beach, Oceano, San Miguel, Cayucos, Avila Beach, and Santa Margarita.

What is security patrol service, and how does it differ from an hourly, on-site security officer?

Security patrol service is a proactive and cost-effective solution for protecting your property. Unlike on-site security officers who remain at a single location, patrol services involve trained personnel conducting random checks of your property by vehicle and on foot. These patrols are designed to check hot spots, deter crime, identify vulnerabilities, and provide quick response to issues like trespassing, vandalism, or suspicious activity.

For many properties, patrol services offer a superior option by delivering targeted security without the expense of a full-time, on-site guard. By covering multiple areas in one visit and leveraging strategic scheduling, patrols ensure that potential threats are addressed efficiently while minimizing costs. They’re ideal for properties with lower traffic or specific timeframes when risk is higher, such as overnight hours.

Patrol services also provide flexibility and adaptability, allowing coverage to scale with your needs. Detailed reports give you valuable insights into property conditions and security concerns. For most businesses experiencing trespassing, loitering, and vandalism issues, patrol services can achieve the desired result for a fraction of the cost of having an hourly security officer on site overnight.

What are “Hot Spots”?

Hot spots are simply a way to identify problem areas on a property or locations that need more attention than others. While they are not the only area checked during a security patrol of the property, they are given extra attention. Hot spots can be an area that experiences frequent trespassing, such as an inset doorway alcove or dumpster enclosure, areas that need to be secured, such as a specific gate or door, or any other area that has a higher security or safety concern on the property.

Do your security patrol get out of the vehicle or just do a slow drive-by of the property?

Our Patrol Officers are required to exit the vehicle and walk the property on every patrol. Each property has designated hot spots that must be checked every time the property is patrolled.

What is your process for removing trespassers from a property?

When we find trespassers on a property, we approach them with caution and ask them to leave. In about 95% of cases, we can get them to leave without having to involve the police. If they continue to refuse to leave we will contact local law enforcement and wait on the property, observing from a safe distance, until they arrive to assist us with removing the subject from the property.

Do you offer lockup services?

Property patrols can include a lockup service with a few conditions. Lockups cannot be set for a specific time, though we will commit to a one-hour window. This is primarily because there are dozens of sites on our patrol route, and it is impossible to say that an issue at another property won’t delay us. While we do offer lockup service, the current scheduling of our patrol route prohibits us from providing early morning unlock services.

Can you provide security for my wedding or event?

While Red Oak Security started in the wedding and event security industry, we have since moved away from providing security for events and now focus primarily on security patrol services. Our insurance policy does not allow us to provide security for events at this time.
